International Technical Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency – IEAE

The Nuclear Affairs Group of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as part of its role as the national liaison office in Colombia with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is responsible for receiving Project Proposals and submitting them to said international organism information in order to determine the specifics of the national technical cooperation program for peaceful applications of nuclear energy.

Each project lasts for four years, two for formulation and two for implementation. The Program includes two different types of projects:

National Projects: During the formulation period for National Projects, proposals are conceptualized and projects are selected as well as prioritized for presentation to the IAEA in order to determine program specifics. Afterwards, during the two years of implementation, both the IAEA and the Ministry of Mines and Energy carry out follow-up on the proposed schedules.

ARCAL Projects: ARCAL stands for the Regional Cooperative Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean. These projects may be implemented as either project concept proposals or by joining projects already proposed by another country within the region, with the objective of addressing the needs and problems established by the Regional Strategic Profile.
